Born in Nashville, Tennessee and lived there most of my life.
Graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B. A. in Art
Painted all of my life in all mediums, finally settling on oil.

Owned Ann Beard Interiors, a successful Interior Design business in Nashville during the 1980s and 90s, working in commercial and residential interior design. Clients included Garth Brooks residence and recording studio (JACKS TRACKS); Anne Murray…. Nashville residence and offices on Music Row; residences of Pam Tillis and Hal Ketchum; Aaron Gallery in Chicago Illinois, residence of Tone Grant in Chicago, Illinois (CEO of Refco Corp.); Belmont University School of Music, Nashville; Paragon Rehabilitation Corp.; and Sparrow Music.

Began my portrait business, Ann Cowden Portraits in Oil, in 2002 after studying portraiture with artists whom I admired throughout the country. I studied with Anthony Ryder for 2 years in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Michael Shane Neal and Dawn Whitelaw in Nashville for many years, David Lafell and John De LaVega, as well as others. I have studied extensively, going to museums and looking at the works of famous artists of past and present, learning how they used color, composition, etc. whenever possible, in cities where there are great museums……New York, London, Washington, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, Santa Fe, etc..

I paint portraits of adults and children, traveling around the country to photograph and to deliver. I have been honored to paint President Woodrow Wilson for the University of Virginia Law School.

I am a member of the Portrait Society of America, Oil painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Women Painters of the Southeast, and Portraits Inc.
