Hunter Eddy was born in 1967 and grew up in Rutland Vermont. He decided to pursue a career in art after years of drawing in his childhood. He began his studies at the Art Institute of Boston and graduated in 1990 with the honor of an “Excellence in Illustration” award from the College.  After graduation, Hunter spent time in Italy studying landscape painting and drawing with the Boston Visual School under the direction of painters John Lanza and George Gabin. He also studied drawing and painting with Boston artist Tom Oulette where he developed his interests in traditional drawing techniques. Having decided to undertake a full-time study of traditional painting and drawing from the Renaissance era at the Florence Academy of Art under the direction of Daniel Graves, Hunter made the move to Florence, Italy.  After his first year there, Hunter was asked to teach as an assistant teacher in the program. He was made a principle painting instructor at the academy in 1988 and taught for 10 years in the advanced painting program.

While in Florence, Hunter also worked in his private studio, “ArtSpace,” a center for artists which he co-founded.  In 2009 he was featured as a finalist for a figure competition in International Artist magazine, for a painting entitled, No Secrets.   In 2010, Hunter received an honorable mention at the Greenhouse Gallery Salon in Texas, for a portrait entitled Ken.  More recently, Hunter has had an article entitled Holistic Harmonizing of all Elements published in International Artist (Issue #86) and was awarded Best of Show for his painting Issues in an edition of the Ray Mar Art Painting Competition.  His works are in private collections across the United States and Europe.

Now working out of his private studio in Essex, Vermont, Hunter resides at home with his wife, Evelyn, and Daughter, Giulia.
